Orlando Pedalcab Scene

Earth Shuttle Pedalcab - that's me!

Orlando, Florida has about equal numbers of pedalcabs (trailer-cabs) and pedicabs (trikes.)

A week ago, there were as many as 100 bike-cabs serving the 130,000-attendee International Home Builders' Show at the whopping Orange County Convention Center on International Drive, fifteen miles from downtown. I. Drive looks like a ghost town now, with less than a hundred thousand tourists spread along its five-mile hotel area.

Almost half of the cabbers have probably either already left town (having traveled for the biggest show here) or are thinking of leaving because of the proposed Orlando pedicab ordinance. I'm cheerleading for the NYC cabbers, partly because our city council is waiting to see what New York enacts. Downtown is normally more lucrative than the I Drive resort area, and there are too many bike-cabs there on busy nights already.

I make quite a bit of my money on wedding getaways, so I'll outlast most of the impatient or greedy whippersnappers who think that they're my competitors.

By the way, it's a balmy 40 degrees F here, with 70% humidity to clam the cold onto your skin.
Tomorrow night it freezes - c'mon down!
